In 2014 I was 27 years old, living in Brooklyn and working for a start up tech company. When I started the job I was one of 3 so I truly got to be part of something from the ground up. I gained so much knowledge on how to operate and grow a business but eventually lost passion investing so much time and dedication into something that wasn't my own. I was eventually laid off and it was the best blessing in disguise. I knew for 100% certainty I would only devote that much time into something of my own. I spent 2 years bartending and traveling while exploring options. While spending a month in Merida I became obsessed with the idea of fragrance and scents. I carried around a notebook and would jot down ideas for scent combinations everywhere I went. After that trip, I got back to NY and rented an airbnb upstate with a box of candle supplies and thought I could teach myself how to make the perfect candle in one week. haha. It took me at least a year of R&D, making many mistakes along the way but the last thing I wanted to do was create anything of poor quality. I finally launched anai shortly after turning 29 and quickly discovered the demand for custom products. Instead of focusing on my own candle brand I decided to shift my main focus to a white label sort of company. With customs, I get to meet so many fellow business owners while also getting to design something new and different for every customer. I think it's so important to have a passion for what you do and I think my love for unique fragrances and design shows in the quality of my work.
